Having Anxiety Attacks Due to Work Stress

I am having anxiety attacks at work.

To give you more insight… today, I am having sharp pains in my chest that anyone else would go to the hospital thinking it is a heart attack. Yet, I know better.

Job related stress is taking a toll.

It has taken me almost 4 years to feel comfortable at my current work environment. It is somewhat interesting when you know and understand that I am a manager and have people I supervise.  My job you can say is professional and has career growth and advancement potential.

I do feel that what I am doing has a career path with great growth potential yet I am always feeling unsecured and anxious for most of the time.

Although, I manage… it is hard for me to supervise and confront people… so, I guess I have social anxiety disorder, my problem is that these feelings are happening every day.

I fear losing my position. At the level that I am at… it is not easy finding open positions where I can land a job tomorrow. I am getting depressed even thinking about it.

I am always asking and searching for answers on how to stop anxiety and its related disorders that I know if I don’t deal with them and conquer them, then they will take over… can not let that happen. This is one of the reasons I started this blog. The Anxiety Help Blog is my escape.

Anyhow, lately, my boss, has chosen to help, guide and mentor a underlying of mine. The problem is that the person is an excellent staff member, productive and hard worker so for me there is no way I can step in and deny my boss’s request for helping this person advance within the company yet I find myself dealing with these negative thoughts that they would let me go and have her in my place.

You do not understand, I can’t work like this, I know the anxiety symptoms and I am getting close to a full blown anxiety attack.

Depression and Anxiety battles as Artie Lange Attempts Suicide


On Jan 7, 2010, The New York Post reported that troubled comic Artie Lange,  Howard Stern’s sidekick, landed in the hospital after stabbing himself nine times in an apparent suicide attempt.

The newspaper continued by reporting that Lange sustained six “hesitation wounds” and three deep plunges.

Artie Lange has been compared and labeled as a self-destructive comedian equal to Chris Farley and John Belushi. Yet, this account of self inflicting wounds that the authorities are calling a suicide attempt boggles the mind and the soul. Manic Depression, anxiety attacks, and who knows what more, oh yes, drugs, are the demons of Artie Lange.


Too much drugs, too much depression, and extremely high levels of anxiety, leaves anyone with very little hope…

How far out can we go that gets us to a place where we do not want to live anymore?

At the moment, it is also reported that Artie is out of the hospital and healing. Yet, it seems to me that this train is heading to a “head on collision” and the end of this story will not be pretty. I do hope not but this is how I am seeing it today.

I know that for those who read this blog this time of the year might not be the best… we just had the holidays here is the U.S. and that meant for many of us all the shopping, meeting and parties we really did not want to attend or do.

Yes, very high levels of anxiety and desperation.

Now, we are in the new year and that meant resolutions, goals, maybe a new job, career change and who know what else… but we also have to be in alert due to the economy, housing, then Haiti earthquake, and many more issues… just too much.

As you can maybe feel from the tone of this blog post I am feeling a bit tight and yes I can feel anxiety chest pains. But anyhow, we all know that there is a solution and that there is an opportunity for us all to learn how to stop anxiety.

I repeat myself--get anxiety help now. I am not sure if there is such a thing as a best anxiety medication. I go more for the natural remedies and here at the blog we have recommended Gabatrol.

Finally, my number 1 advice for 2010 is: to educate yourself… want to learn how to stop anxiety attacks.. then read, research, learn!

As for Artie Lange, I hope that he can find peace with himself and live a long life… yet the other days in my church a lady said this: “God is really close to us yet we are so far.”

Manic Depression, Are You Taking Manic Depression Seriously?

Manic depression or Bipolar depression is actually considered as one of the most horrible type of depression that people usually experience from. This is something that we all need to be taking very seriously.

The National Institute of Mental Health defines Bipolar disorder, also known as manic-depressive illness, as a brain disorder that causes unusual shifts in mood, energy, activity levels, and the ability to carry out day-to-day tasks. Symptoms of bipolar disorder are severe. They are different from the normal ups and downs that everyone goes through from time to time. Bipolar disorder symptoms can result in damaged relationships, poor job or school performance, and even suicide. But bipolar disorder can be treated, and people with this illness can lead full and productive lives.

Usually typified by sudden and extreme changes in their ambiance, Manic depression is said to be called as such because manic = mania refers to the ‘ups’ while depression refers to the ‘downs’.

A lot of people actually experience erratic changes in their moods, some times, these so-called mood swings may not just be caused by PMS (pre-menstrual syndrome) or stress. Doctors actually have diagnosed mood swings as a common symptom of depression.

But when these so-called mood swings have gone to highest irrationality, from getting annoyed even by the littlest or simplest of things like not getting your favorite ice cream flavor, this may not be just a sign of spoiled brat, but when getting annoyed means you’ll cuss and swear on the ice cream vendor and throw absurd tantrums, this may already be the start of Manic depression.

My Own Anxiety

I know of the difficulties of my own anxieties. I have other disorders problems as well and I know what that experience is… but can you imagine a child having acute anxiety episodes? Can you? I can not even think about the discussion we are about to have here which is in regards to your child anxiety treatment!

This to me, acute child anxiety, was an unknown until I read this article at news-medical.net. I think you should read the article and see what is being done for having children (may I repeat) children cope with anxiety, mood disorders and Somatoform.

So you know, intense fear, worry, and uneasiness have for always significantly affected my life, and now I know that even children can experience what I experience. I always thought that child anxiety was more about separation anxieties. I was wrong.

I am finding that children anxiety symptoms are usually manifested in the child being afraid, worried, or uneasy that they cannot function normally. It is amazing for me to know that some children anxiety disorders can last through out the life of the kid and can greatly interfere in their daily lives.

This is what the National Mental Health Center says in their website, “Anxiety disorders are among the most common mental, emotional, and behavioral problems to occur during childhood and adolescence. About 13 of every 100 children and adolescents ages 9 to 17 experience some kind of anxiety disorder; girls are affected more than boys.1 About half of children and adolescents with anxiety disorders have a second anxiety disorder or other mental or behavioral disorder, such as depression. In addition, anxiety disorders may coexist with physical health conditions requiring treatment.”

Can you imagine 13 out every 100 kids have some form of anxiety, mood disorder or Somatoform! This statistics is huge and big enough to know that this is a problem in today’s society.

The article at news-medical.net discusses about a new child anxiety therapy for decreasing these symptoms through Well-Being Therapy (WBT). Here is what the article says, “The aim of this study was to apply a modified form of WBT to a child population of patients with mood, anxiety and conduct disorders, and to test its effects in reducing symptoms and in improving new skills and competencies in children.”

The last part that strikes me is this  Somatoform.

What is Somatoform?

Looking in Wikipedia we read the following: “Somatoform disorder (also known as Briquet’s syndrome) is a mental disorder characterized by physical symptoms that mimic physical disease or injury for which there is no identifiable physical cause[1]. Somatoform disorder is a condition in which the physical symptoms a person feels are due to mental factors. These symptoms can not be traced to a specific physical cause. In people who have Somatoform disorder, medical test results are either normal or don’t explain the person’s symptoms. People who have this disorder may undergo several medical evaluations and tests to be sure that they do not have an illness related to a physical cause or central lesion. Patients with this disorder often become very worried about their health because the doctors are unable to find a cause for their health problems. Their symptoms are similar to the symptoms of other illnesses and may last for several years.”

My Last Point – Child Anxiety Treatment

My last point… you know at times we adults think we are so inundated with problems—mental, physical, emotional, financial, and much more—after today, I love my kids even more.

The children have to go through so much… It is not fair for a child to have to go through a child anxiety treatment or treatments. I am hoping this new well-being treatment helps many children with anxiety, mood disorder and Somatoform.
