The best medications sold to the public as the ultimate mental health treatments are not in our best interest. If you do not agree just read below.
I read a lot. I read as much as I can. Health, business, finance, internet, and sports are the topics that most interest me. In regards to health related issues, I tend to read almost everything that gets to my hand or computer screen. Today, I am reading and old issue of Forbes Magazine.
Forbes has an interesting article in its November 2009 issue. Yes, I know it is old but it has been in my “pack of magazines” to read. Of course, I also have a big stack of books on my desk. Nevertheless, the November 2009 Forbes edition has some interesting facts about “Mental Health Treatments, Page 68, Nov 2009 Forbes Magazine.”
This article states the following:
- $1,657 Monthly Cost of treating schizophrenia with Seroquel.
- $1,433 Monthly Cost of treating schizophrenia with Zyprexa.
- $1,131 Monthly Cost of treating schizophrenia with old drug (perphenazine).
- NONE Differences in patient quality of life between drugs
** Source: American Journal of Psychiatry, December 2006
The article continues stating that –Last year new schizophrenia drugs such as Seroquel from AstraZeneca and Zyprexa from Eli Lilly edged over cholesterol drugs–. Yet, no immediate difference was noted in patients from these new drugs compared to other older medications.
This article and many other studies suggest that there is just not a better medication for anxiety or any other mental health related disorders.

Can Acupuncture Help My Depression and Anxiety?
One of the health issues that many people suffer from nowadays is depression.
In fact, more people suffer depression symptoms than most of us realize. There are many medications readily available to remedy this problem, most of us do not want to influence our bodies with chemicals. If you are a long time reader of our blog, you will know by now that we do prefer natural remedies at all times.
I use herbs for my anxiety but do realize that there really is no best anxiety medication. If you disagree, you can leave a comment on what is the best drug or what is best remedy suited for you. We encourage participation, go ahead and leave us a note in the comment area.
Now back to my point today about acupuncture and depression.
Acupuncture and Depression
One way in which many people have found relief for their depression and anxiety symptoms is through acupuncture treatments.
What is Depression?
The National Institute of Mental Health describes Depression as a serious medical illness; it’s not something that you have made up in your head. It’s more than just feeling “down in the dumps” or “blue” for a few days. It’s feeling “down” and “low” and “hopeless” for weeks at a time.
The National Institute of Mental Health also states that there is An estimated six million men in the United States have a depressive disorder-major depression, dysthymia (chronic, less severe depression), or bipolar disorder (manic-depressive illness) every year.
How can Acupuncture Treatment Help Depression and Anxiety
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese art. The insertion of very tiny, hair thin needles manipulates and balances the energy within our body. According to traditional Chinese medicine, all of us have an energy often referred to as Chi, and this energy causes all life to flow within us as individuals. A balance between the good and the bad energies in our body is necessary for us to maintain health. Acupuncture treatments realize and maintain this balance.
According to many naturalists, an imbalance in the body in some form or another causes depression. It often happens because of stress from lifestyle changes we experience, problems arising at work. or other situations in our lives. The depression we feel is quite real and can be life altering. Depression makes it difficult for us to lead a normal life. By bringing our body back into balance, however, we can overcome many health problems, including depression.
As it gained popularity in the United States in the past several decades, acupuncture treatments came under scrutiny by the medical community. However, rather than disproving the theory, the study results actually promoted the practice. Although it is difficult to create a control group in a clinical study of acupuncture treatment, some studies show an increase in blood flow and energy the targeted areas when manipulating acupuncture points.
If you are experiencing depression or having a difficult time in life, then acupuncture may help you. Over thousands of years, the practice helped an untold number of individuals cope with health problems and balance their life.
Can Acupuncture Positively Treat Depression and Anxiety?
A resounding “yes.” Acupuncture is indeed a powerful treatment for depression and anxiety. We have defined depression above, now, let’s define Anxiety. Anxiety is relatively permanent state of worry and nervousness. We have noted here today that Acupuncture seeks to address body, mind, emotions and spirit.
How does then acupuncture help depression and anxiety?
It will help by creating harmony within ourselves and between ourselves and the world. A body in harmony then will have no anxiety symptoms.
Finally, I recommend that you read this great article and keep studying about this great topic, so go ahead by clicking the title: Can acupuncture treat depression and anxiety?
Depending at what time you are reading this and personally knowing this is a time when we all experience anxiety, panic and depression. I want to wish YOU well into the future–have a GREAT 2010! Let us make it the year we get healthier.
Christmas, Snow, I need Chamomile Tea for Anxiety Help
Filed under: Anxiety Remedies, Best Anxiety Medication, Herbs, Self Help
Here we go,
I live in NJ. South NJ to be exact and we had 22″ inches of snow in my neck of the woods.
It was good and bad.
Good because had a chance to spend time with the kids, wife and some friends.
Bad, because Christmas is in three days. What? Yes, I have anxiety and stress.
At this time of the year, My anxieties come from:
- Snow
- Christmas
- Christmas brings friends and family where I find myself with social anxiety… Even thinking of all that I have to do is giving me so much fear and stress plus a bit of depression
- Christmas parties… ouch.
- Buying gifts and not buying gifts, etc.
Well, if you are like me, then, you understand my emotions for this time of year. So, the other days, deep in snow and feeling anxious, I asked myself what do I have here in the house that can relief my stress, and control my emotions and feelings… I definitely did not want to go to the Doctor.
I needed to know how to stop my anxiety fast… or at least give me a smooth easy feeling. I decided to search my pantry and all the way in the back I found this box of Chamomile Tea that was given to me awhile ago.
Chamomile Tea
Right after the first sip, I knew that the hot Chamomile Tea was just the right thing for me because it has this soothing effect… just wonderful. Chamomile Tea acts as a mild relaxant so it is useful in treating stress, anxiety, depression, and insomnia. And it’s also useful in the treatment of skin irritations and allergies.
Anyhow, It is so fragrant, with a light herbal taste. I just love it. Chamomile tea is becoming one of my favorite herbal products.
- As always, we want to add the disclaimer that is in the box of tea I have here, the disclaimer is that Chamomile Tea may interfere with some anxiety and depression drugs, so really read the labels of any products before you use them.
I am much better today. This morning I had my morning herbal tea.
But, I will keep you posted on how I do with all the shopping, gifting, family reunion and parties.
God Bless, Happy Christmas and GREAT New Year 2010!

Cymbalta Approved for Generalized Anxiety Disorder Treatment
Filed under: Anxiety Symptoms, Best Anxiety Medication, Depression
Big news today is that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Cymbalta® for the maintenance treatment of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in adults, Eli Lilly and Company announced today.
“With this additional approval, Cymbalta offers a new option for the maintenance treatment of this often-debilitating condition,” said said James M. Martinez, MD, U.S. Medical Director for Cymbalta.
ABOUT GENERALIZED ANXIETY DISORDER
Generalized anxiety disorder or GAD affects nearly 7 million Americans. Although the symptoms of Generalized Anxiety Disorder can be different and varied one can expect and experience the following: excessive worry or anxiety over a period of six months or longer, difficulties controlling worry, irritability, poor concentration, sleep disturbances, fatigue, restlessness and muscle tension.Obviously GAD will have a very negative impact on a person’s ability to function well in work, family and social situations.
People with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) go through the day filled with exaggerated worry and tension, even though there is little or nothing to provoke it. They anticipate disaster and are overly concerned about health issues, money, family problems, or difficulties at work. Sometimes just the thought of getting through the day produces anxiety. You can read more here: GAD.
ABOUT CYMBALTA
The press release reports that Cymbalta is a balanced and potent reuptake inhibitor of serotonin and norepinephrine that is believed to potentiate the activity of these chemicals in the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). While the mechanism of action of Cymbalta is not known, scientists believe its effects on depression and anxiety symptoms, as well as its effect on pain perception, may be due to increasing the activity of serotonin and norepinephrine in the central nervous system. You can read more about this press release at Cymbalta.

Filed under: Anxiety Panic Meds, Anxiety Remedies, Anxiety Symptoms, Best Anxiety Medication
Time and time again, the question on how to stop anxiety attacks keeps coming up through our anxiety help blog. Here we are trying to give our readers simple basic information that can start anyone’s research. We believe that information and preparedness is the best medicine for anxiety.
Suffering from acute anxiety will hinder your life and set you in a negative state of mind. Finding how to stop you anxiety attacks becomes your number one goal in your life. Anxiety remedy becomes of the utmost importance. If your are unable to deal or cope with reality, life problems, deception or anything else in your life then it is time to search for anxiety remedies.
Learning how to stop anxiety attacks is your first step to actually stopping them. If you do not know how to stop anxiety attacks, you will need all the anxiety help advice you can get. I suggest that you decide to stop your anxiety attacks and start experiencing life once again.
Here are four simple ways you can stop your anxiety attacks.
Accessing A Professional Team.
Having a professional team on your side will be the biggest asset in your fight to end anxiety attacks. A psychologist will ask you questions in order to determine the problems that causes your anxiety attacks.
Your psychologist or psychiatrist will look to find about your fears, anxieties, and or depressions. Finally after the main cause of your attacks is identified then a proper cause of action will be given by the professional. This can be through therapy or prescribe the best anxiety medication for you. Your professional will have the best anxiety help for you.
Having a Coping Mechanism
There are so many techniques: breathing techniques, becoming calm, CBT, Well-Being Therapy and the One Move Technique created by Joe Barry from PanicAway.com
To us the most intriguing is the CBT and the One Move Technique as they both are natural remedies for anxiety.
CBT is Cognitive behavioral therapy for anxiety disorders. Recognizing the triggers of an anxiety attack, or identifying the root cause of an anxiety attack can be part of cognitive behavioral therapy treatment programs. This type of treatment allows the sufferer to work with a licensed professional to identify the troublesome thoughts, behaviors and patterns to see where they may be behaving in an irrational or inappropriate way.
Anxiety Medications
Several types of prescription drugs have proven to be effective for treating anxiety disorders, and the type and dosage varies by person and condition. The most common types of medication prescribed to those with anxiety disorder are a class of drugs known as benzodiazepines. These drugs have a tranquilizing effect on the body, and include drugs such as Valium, Librium, Xanax and BuSpar.
Focus On Objects
Focusing on your surroundings and even naming them as well as trying to remain calm is a great way to handle anxiety attacks. When you focus on an object, you stop focusing on what causes your anxiety attack.
Depression Anxiety Medication, Medications to Treat Your Anxiety and Depression

Turn to Depression Anxiety Medication
In the quest to relieve ourselves from the heaviness of depression and
anxiety symptoms, we usually turn to taking depression anxiety medication.
The reason for this… well, it is rooted in our culture as we treat everything
with a pill, syrup or extract from a plant.
And I guess is just the way it is…
imho… The drug making companies will for always make sure we take – wink, wink – medicine.
Some medications are more powerful than others are… and other medication’s real purpose
is to bring income to the drug making company.
Anyhow, our goal is to relieve our symptoms and usually our doctors will prescribe what the best
available medicine is to treat our symptoms. Do not take lightly in having a professional team on your side.
This is very important for you to have a productive and successful life.
Types of Depression Anxiety Medication
Now, note that anxiety and depression medication may only relieve some of your symptoms.
Anxiety and depression medication is not a silver bullet and they come with their own side
effects and problems.
There are several ways to treat your depression and anxiety: SSRI drugs, atypical antidepressants,
natural remedies, CBT, reprogramming the brain, breathing techniques, herbal products, and much more.
Yet, SSRI’s are the most common types of depression anxiety medication prescribed.
It is known fact that Prozac increase serotonin levels in the brain and may effectively deal
with your type of depression or anxiety.
Now below is a list of other SSRI’s (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) that may
help your condition:
* Fluvoxamine (Luvox)
* Sertraline (Zoloft)
* Paroxetine (Paxil)
* Escitalopram (Lexapro)
* Citalopram (Celexa)

We all need to remember, that medication alone may treat some symptoms
of depression anxiety, but can’t change the root of the problem in your life.
Steps to Take When Searching for Depression Anxiety Medication
If you are searching for information on depression anxiety medication then you
first need to seek advice from a psychiatrist, not your internal medicine physician.
Then, under professional supervision, you need to have a bit of patience as to let
the anxiety depression meds. work in your body.
The effect may take some time. In addition, you may not necessarily experiment
a positive effect immediately.
Third step is important.
Do not ignore the therapy session with your psychiatrist
or psychologist, as this might be the most effective thing you do to stop your anxiety
and depression.
Finally, do not stop taking your depression anxiety medication. You really do not want
to have withdrawal symptoms without your doctor knowing about this… and if the
medication is not working just let your professional doctor know about it and have
him re-examine which depression anxiety medication is best suited for you.

Stop Your Anxiety Attacks !!
Time and time again the question about which is the “best anxiety
medication” appears to be the focus of much discussion.
Here are the three anti anxiety medications I think are the best in terms of
ease of acquiring the drug (of course, through prescription from a
professional doctor or counselor), the side effects and impact to
the patient.
Now, — PLEASE –
This is just in my humble opinion–I am not a Doctor. What I look for
is best possible outcome with the least amount of side effects.
Here are my choices without much added information on my part.
Let’s review three anxiety meds from the following SSRIs, Beta
Blockers and Benzodiazepines family.
These three family of anxiolytics have been shown to be useful for anxiety
disorder help.
1) SSRI’s
2) Beta Blockers
3) Benzodiazepines
1) Anxiety Med: SSRI’s
A very brief description is to say that SSRI’s helps maintain levels of Serotonin,
a chemical released by the brain which has shown to be rather low in patients
with depression, anxiety, panic attacks, and OCD.
My choice of SSRI’s is: Paxil CR Controlled-Release.
Some possible side effects: back pain; blurred vision; constipation; decreased
sexual desire or ability; diarrhea; dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth; gas;
increased sweating; increased urination; loss of appetite; nausea; nervousness;
numbness or tingling of the skin; sinus inflammation; stomach pain or upset;
etc.
2) Anxiety Med: Beta Blockers
Beta Blockers are used for controlling the physical symptoms of anxiety and panic,
such as rapid heartbeat and shaking.
Beta Blockers are considered to have fewer side effects than any
other anxiety meds.
My choice of Beta Blocker is Inderal.
Some possible Side Effects: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation,
stomach cramps; decreased sex drive, impotence, sleep problems
(insomnia); or tired feeling.
3) Anxiety Med: Clonazepam
Benzodiazepines is used for immediate relief of panic. If a panic attack is
occurring, this anxiety medication is used to relax muscles, and calm you down.
My choice of Benzodiazepines is: Serax.
Serax works by affecting the brain to reduce nervous tension.
Some of the Side effects include clumsiness, dizziness, fatigue,
etc.

My best to you, feel better today and tomorrow.
Can we find the best anxiety medication?
Filed under: Anxiety Remedies, Best Anxiety Medication
There is a great fallacy in regards to finding the best anxiety medication.
Can we find any good anxiety medication?
Although we will not get into which is the worst or the best anxiety medication, we do feel the need to give some explanation and to say that there is NO fail safe without side effect depression or anxiety drug that is available in the market.
Benzodiazepines used to be deemed the best anti-anxiety medication. The common names of benzodiazepines are Alprazolam, Diazepam, and Chlordiazepoxide.
While benzodiazepines, buspirone, antidepressants and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRIs are usually used as anti anxiety medication, sometimes antipsychotic, antihistamine, barbiturates and betablocker drugs can sometimes be prescribed depending on specific issues with each case or patient.
Should I continue to explain how difficult this is?
Here’s another drug you can read about… Celexa drug click the link to read more about the side effects of this anti anxiety medication.
There are numerous types of anti-anxiety drugs in the market today, similar to the
infinite number of agony relievers that adorn the shelves of many drug stores across the country.
This could be better explained by the indisputable fact that no single medication can
effectively work in every patient. We are all very unique and have unique conditions. We need to seek the drugs that best responds to our unique and respective conditions.
Try and imagine a scenario where the best medication for anxiety are required, you could frequently find this becoming a random attempt -trial and error- game
to most patients.
Doctors can’t ever be 100% confident the type of drug administered or the first dose given will result to the required effect. With this under consideration, it becomes quite difficult to say with certainty, what the best anxiety medications truly are.
It is common for doctors to prescribe the two major classes of medications for anxiety
treatment. The perfect type of anxiety medication will mostly be a combination concerning two or more anti-anxiety drugs and anti-depressants.
This combined effort of two drugs works wonders in alleviating both immediate and long-term symptoms.
It may be worth to notice that, while every effort is made by doctors in looking for
perfect remedies for anxiety, patients on their side can help a great amount if they stick to a few fundamental things.
Some of these measures will actively involve patients in their treatment, and need to follow them:
- Creating time to read and understand the medication. Not even the best
anxiety medication can work correctly if wrongly taken. It’s
therefore essential for patients to be acquainted with what they are
taking, the duration of the medication, how it works and the time it
takes to turn on, because, while some medications produce an immediate
impact, others take time to show visible indication of recovery in patients using them. Having this information previously can greatly help patients accurately gauge the effectiveness of the prescription.
- Dose understanding. For the case of anti-depressants, its crucial
to take the medication as prescribed. This may include
sticking to the dose amount as directed and also keeping the correct
times of day to use the drugs. - Reporting complications. Most good anxiety medications do come with a
large number of potential side effects and cares. - Drug contradictions. It’s worth pointing out that some best kinds
of anxiety medication may not mix well with other medications including
herbal preparations and even food. This information is
crucial to patients and will help them elude potential contradictions
in the course of their medication.
Anxiety medications are to enable patients of anxiety disorder to deal with the symptoms that prove to be troublesome to the patient. Setting about to find the best medication is basically a matter of private circumstance and specific symptoms.
Due to the side effects of most anxiety drugs, I prefer the natural herbs and natural
remedies. One such drug is Gabatrol.
Gabatrol’s ingredients include Sceletium Tortuosum, a powerful herb known to act fast in reducing stress and anxiety. Gabatrol’s proprietary extraction process allows the full potency of the herb to work effectively and fast.
Gabatrol has a balance of amino acids (the building blocks of proteins) that can subtly affect brain chemistry in a positive way! The all natural ingredients contained in Gabatrol’s proprietary formula is what separates this natural remedy from other stress and anxiety products.
Best anxiety medication is one that does not affect your body, does not give you
side effects, and it is not an addictive medicine. By this definition, you already know which is my answer for my vote on the best anxiety medication.
