Here’s another post I wrote a few days ago about the battles Artie Lange has with depression.
Below, you will find short snippets of depression and anxiety attacks related resources which I think are invaluable,. You need to read them and go the websites for more information.
Get Well.
Here they are:

Depression is a condition in which a person feels discouraged, sad, hopeless, unmotivated, or disinterested in life in general. When these feelings last for a short period of time, it may be a case of “the blues. But when such feelings last for more than two weeks and when the feelings interfere with daily activities such as taking care of family, spending time with friends, or going to work or school, it’s likely a major depressive episode. Major depression is a treatable illness that affects the way a person thinks, feels, behaves, and functions. At any point in time, 3 to 5 percent of people suffer from major depression; the lifetime risk is about 17 percent. Three main types of depressive disorders-major depression, dysthymia, and bipolar disorder-can occur with any of the anxiety disorders.

Depression is a healthy coping strategy. Trying to feel better by drinking alcohol, dwelling on how badly you feel, or hoping anxiety or depression will go away on their own can lead to worsening symptoms. The word “exercise” may make you think of running laps around the gym. But a wide range of activities that boost your activity level help you feel better. Certainly running, lifting weights, playing basketball and other fitness activities that get your heart pumping can help. But so can gardening, washing your car, or strolling around the block and other less intense activities. Anything that gets you off the couch and moving is exercise that can help improve your mood. You don’t have to do all your exercise at once, either. Broaden how you think of exercise and find ways to fit activity into your routine. Add small amounts of physical activity throughout your day. For example, take the stairs instead of the elevator. Park a little farther away at work to fit in a short walk.

Depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain that medication can correct. According to the chemical imbalance theory, low levels of the brain chemical serotonin lead to depression and depression medication works by bringing serotonin levels back to normal. However, the truth is that researchers know very little about how antidepressants work. There is no test that can measure the amount of serotonin in the living brain – no way to even know what a low or normal level of serotonin is, let alone show that depression medication fixes these levels. While antidepressant drugs such as prozac increase serotonin levels in the brain, this doesn’t mean that depression is caused by a serotonin shortage. After all, aspirin may cure a headache, but it doesn’t mean that headaches are caused by an aspirin deficiency. Furthermore, many studies contradict the chemical imbalance theory of depression. Experiments have shown that lowering people’s serotonin levels doesn’t always lower mood, nor does it worsen symptoms in people who are already depressed. And while antidepressants raise serotonin levels within hours, it takes weeks before medication kicks in to relieve depression. If depression were due to low serotonin, there wouldn’t be an antidepressant medication lag. When it comes to depression, serotonin doesn’t tell the whole story. Experts agree that depression involves much more than just “bad” brain chemistry. Serotonin is just one of many factors that may play a role in the disorder.

In recent years, with burgeoning research progress, we are finding out that depression is much more common than many of us thought. At least 15% (and likely more) of women take an antidepressant during their lifetime. Depression is much more common in women than in men, but the reason for this female predominance is unclear. Having Anxiety Attacks Due to Work Stress
Filed under: Anxiety Symptoms, Depression, Fear, Mood Disorders, Self Help, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, stress
I am having anxiety attacks at work.
To give you more insight… today, I am having sharp pains in my chest that anyone else would go to the hospital thinking it is a heart attack. Yet, I know better.
Job related stress is taking a toll.
It has taken me almost 4 years to feel comfortable at my current work environment. It is somewhat interesting when you know and understand that I am a manager and have people I supervise. My job you can say is professional and has career growth and advancement potential.
I do feel that what I am doing has a career path with great growth potential yet I am always feeling unsecured and anxious for most of the time.
Although, I manage… it is hard for me to supervise and confront people… so, I guess I have social anxiety disorder, my problem is that these feelings are happening every day.
I fear losing my position. At the level that I am at… it is not easy finding open positions where I can land a job tomorrow. I am getting depressed even thinking about it.
I am always asking and searching for answers on how to stop anxiety and its related disorders that I know if I don’t deal with them and conquer them, then they will take over… can not let that happen. This is one of the reasons I started this blog. The Anxiety Help Blog is my escape.
Anyhow, lately, my boss, has chosen to help, guide and mentor a underlying of mine. The problem is that the person is an excellent staff member, productive and hard worker so for me there is no way I can step in and deny my boss’s request for helping this person advance within the company yet I find myself dealing with these negative thoughts that they would let me go and have her in my place.
You do not understand, I can’t work like this, I know the anxiety symptoms and I am getting close to a full blown anxiety attack.
I got to be positive. If you are reading this entry… let’s try to not have anxiety attacks due to work stress… let’s both work on learning how to stop anxiety.
Depression and Anxiety battles as Artie Lange Attempts Suicide
Filed under: Anxiety Remedies, Anxiety Symptoms, Depression, Mood Disorders, Self Help
On Jan 7, 2010, The New York Post reported that troubled comic Artie Lange, Howard Stern’s sidekick, landed in the hospital after stabbing himself nine times in an apparent suicide attempt.
The newspaper continued by reporting that Lange sustained six “hesitation wounds” and three deep plunges.
You can Read more at: http://www.nypost.com/p/pagesix/stern_sidekick_in_suicide_try_5m9Hwhn1OvpONlzbsiW3oJ#ixzz0dGOdIMKv
Artie Lange has been compared and labeled as a self-destructive comedian equal to Chris Farley and John Belushi. Yet, this account of self inflicting wounds that the authorities are calling a suicide attempt boggles the mind and the soul. Manic Depression, anxiety attacks, and who knows what more, oh yes, drugs, are the demons of Artie Lange.
Too much drugs, too much depression, and extremely high levels of anxiety, leaves anyone with very little hope…
How far out can we go that gets us to a place where we do not want to live anymore?
Here’s a little table for us all that should put this suicide attempt into perspective:
from the CDC website: www.cdc.gov/nhcs/fastats/suicide.htm
Suicide and Self-Inflicted Injury
(Data are for the U.S.)
Health care use
* Number of emergency department visits for self-inflicted injury: 594,000
Source: National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey: 2006 Emergency Department Summary, table 13

* Number of deaths: 33,300
* Deaths per 100,000 population: 11.1
* Cause of death rank: 11
Firearm suicides
* Number of deaths: 16,883
* Deaths per 100,000 population: 5.6
Suffocation suicides
* Number of deaths: 7,491
* Deaths per 100,000 population: 2.5
Poisoning suicides
* Number of deaths: 6,109
* Deaths per 100,000 population: 2.0
{Editor’s Note: please focus on that this table is deaths per 100,000 population}
At the moment, it is also reported that Artie is out of the hospital and healing. Yet, it seems to me that this train is heading to a “head on collision” and the end of this story will not be pretty. I do hope not but this is how I am seeing it today.
I know that for those who read this blog this time of the year might not be the best… we just had the holidays here is the U.S. and that meant for many of us all the shopping, meeting and parties we really did not want to attend or do.
Yes, very high levels of anxiety and desperation.
Now, we are in the new year and that meant resolutions, goals, maybe a new job, career change and who know what else… but we also have to be in alert due to the economy, housing, then Haiti earthquake, and many more issues… just too much.
As you can maybe feel from the tone of this blog post I am feeling a bit tight and yes I can feel anxiety chest pains. But anyhow, we all know that there is a solution and that there is an opportunity for us all to learn how to stop anxiety.
I repeat myself--get anxiety help now. I am not sure if there is such a thing as a best anxiety medication. I go more for the natural remedies and here at the blog we have recommended Gabatrol.

Finally, my number 1 advice for 2010 is: to educate yourself… want to learn how to stop anxiety attacks.. then read, research, learn!
As for Artie Lange, I hope that he can find peace with himself and live a long life… yet the other days in my church a lady said this: “God is really close to us yet we are so far.”
Artie Lange if you read this blog --> God is really close to you, how about if you get closer to Him.
Peace.
The Time Is Now For You To Learn How To Reduce Anxiety
Filed under: Anxiety Remedies, Anxiety Symptoms, Fear, Self Help, Success, stress
I am hoping that today’s post helps you learn how to reduce your anxiety.
I will be honest with you… checking out news of the Haiti earthquake and aftermath is giving me anxiety chest pain and I had to stop feeding my mind with all of the despair and negativity surrounding the news today.
There is way too much going on in the world today!
So, how is your anxiety?
If you are as same as me, then, with all that is happening in the world now… your anxiety must be at an all time high.
There are problems everywhere. Haiti, Iraq, War, H1N1, sickness, the declining stock market, etc. I know, I know… we all worry and at the same time our fears and phobias starts to creep in. This is a real bad time for all of us.
Anyhow, here are 5 tips you can use to reduce your anxiety! The five tips will help you handle your situation on your own without the help of medication… as we always prefer here in the blog… natural anxiety and panic remedies. So, check out the 5 tips on how to reduce anxiety:
1. Change your lifestyle
Many times panic attacks and anxiety attacks are do to a specific lifestyle or personality of yours. If you tend to surround yourself in a stressful environment such as a high-pressured job, you are bound to have built-up stress. If you tend to worry about a lot and have a great deal of pressure loaded on your shoulders, you may want to consider changing the life you are living. Even taking a few extra hours each week for some fun can have a tremendous effect.
2. It’s in your head
One of the last things people want to hear is that the attack is in their head. Unfortunately, this is something that many doctors do agree with. It can be directly related to a chemical imbalance or something similar, but keep in mind that a majority of the time anxiety attacks are mental. Therefore, the greatest anxiety attack self help tip is to learn to control your emotions and calm yourself from any worries you may have.
3. Research
The next self help tip is to take the time to learn what happens during an attack and how you can deal with it during the actual attack. Even if you are on medication to prevent attacks, you can still experience one from time to time. For this reason, you want to know what to do to get rid of it as quickly as possible.
4. Breathing exercises
As you have probably heard before, a great way to release stress is to practice some breathing exercises. Locking yourself in a calm room with little to no noise whatsoever will eliminate the constant stresses that surround you. It gives you time to clear your head and truly relax. Meditation is recommended with breathing exercises as well.
5. Exercise
The last anxiety attack self help tip is to get out and exercise. Sometimes anxiety can be caused by what you believe people think about you and your image. Exercising can help you create the image you desire. As with breathing exercises, this will also allow you to clear your head and feel good about yourself. By the time you are finished with your workout, you will feel relaxed and calm.
Blood Pressure and My Anxiety
Filed under: Anxiety Remedies, Anxiety Symptoms, Self Help, stress
Another health issue that I have is High Blood Pressure.
I am also over-weight.
At times, and depending on the level stress compounded with my anxiety disorder, my blood pressure rises through the roof. I am taking lisinopril for this but that does not stop it from being high at times.
Am I worried… a bit. My mother died from a heart attack that resulted from the high blood pressure problem she had. I need to be careful and take care of myself.
So, here is a bit of information in regards to high blood pressure which I am hoping that it helps you.
The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute define High blood pressure (HBP) as a serious condition that can lead to coronary heart disease, heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, and other health problems.
“Blood pressure” is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps out blood. If this pressure rises and stays high over time, it can damage the body in many ways.
If you have high blood pressure, you are going to be more at danger for many diverse types’ health problems. Your body is not going to be healing well after an injury and it will not repair itself after being sick.
You can read more at The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute.
Now that we know that high blood pressure is something that can lead to a many difficulties during your lifetime. Here are some “easy” tasks that you should think about doing.
First, See a Doctor. You are too valuable to take this lightly.
Second, you should get plenty of exercise. Try getting your heart rate pumping for a period of time several times a week. Basically, go to the gym or create a gym in a section of your house. This is a good way to keep your heart in shape. Also, make sure that you do whatever is necessary to reduce your high blood pressure numbers.
Third, You will need to eat a good diet and stay away from high fat and cholesterol and that you should be doing whatever is healthier for your body when it comes to the food.
Finally, If you Doctor prescribed high blood medication then take it religiously. Do not skip, forget, or not give it importance. At the end, my mother died by not giving that much importance to the Doctor’s orders and the HBP medication. Any kind of medication will have a huge impact on your blood pressure.
There is a lot of different talk about how thing that we do in life will affect our body. You have to figure out that your blood pressure is something that can be dangerously damages your health. It is going to be very important that you know what to do in order to keep your body healthy.
Have a great 2010.

This Christmas, I have Stress and Anxiety
Stress and Anxiety
Well, it got to me… stress, panic and anxiety. “The season for Giving” it is also the season for very high stress and anxiety for me. If you were here at my side right now you would hear me yell that – “I’m SO stressed out!”
With so many pressures, I am finding myself almost at the end of the line in terms of how much I can tolerate without panic or anxiety. My stress is at a very high level. I can feel it at the back if my neck…
How about you?
Christmas Equals Stress and Anxiety?
Does the Christmas season gets you all stressed out? Have anxiety? Panic attacks? There are many, many folks suffering this season and they all need anxiety help and guidance… (by the way, this blog is really helping me with my feelings and I am hoping it is helping you as well).
If our anxiety help secrets blog is helping you, please leave us a good comment.
Now, let us get back to my point on anxiety and stress.
Today economic climate is enough to really put pressure on us but add the holiday season and is like a double whammy that will cause stress and anxiety, and often we are ill-equipped to deal with the anxiety and any other disorders.
You might already know this and I have mentioned it before here at the blog… The anxiety attack statistics are staggering. One in every eight Americans age 18-54 suffers from an anxiety disorder (just go to Wikipedia or NIMH webistes). This totals over 19 million people!
Research conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health has shown that anxiety disorders are the number one mental health problem among American women and are second only to alcohol and drug abuse by men.
Women suffer from anxiety and stress almost twice as much as men. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in America, surpassing even depression in numbers. Anxiety is the most common mental health issue facing adults over 65 years of age.
Unfortunately, stress and anxiety go hand in hand. In fact, one of the major symptoms of stress is anxiety. And stress accounts for 80 percent of all illnesses either directly or indirectly.
In fact, stress is more dangerous than we thought. You’ve probably heard that it can raise your blood pressure, increasing the likelihood of a stroke in the distant future, but recently a health insurance brochure claimed that 90 percent of visits to a primary care physician were stress-related disorders.
Allow me to keep this issue and post more blog posts in the future.. Why? Cuz, right now, I kinda have to go wrap gifts… by the way its 12.25am – 8 days till Christmas… Christmas, Stress and Anxiety it is just a bad combination.
Kids With Mental Disorders Needs Treatment
Filed under: Anxiety Symptoms, Child Anxiety, Depression, Fear, Mental Health, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, panic disorder
No kids should go without medical care.
Stop, let me rephrase to really talk about what I want to say…
I meant, that kids who have mental health disorder should have medical care. period.
It is tough enough for our children to be just kids, but, imagine having a mental disorder on top of all the other pressures kids go through these days. Although, I do not mean to undermine all the other health related problems children face today but having an acute episode of any mental health related disorder is just too much to even think of the hurting that these kids are experiencing.
Can you imagine not having treatment? medication? guidance? a way or format to release?
Well,
The Los Angeles Times – Health reports that only 55% of kids with a mental disorder sought professional treatment.
This to me is a tragic, tragic statistic, although it is higher that previous year there is still too many kids affected not seeking or getting medical treatment.
The LA Times report continues by stating that the National Institute of Mental Health using data from 3,042 kids who took part in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, found the prevalence of six mental health disorders affecting children and adolescents between the ages of 8 and 15.
These are:
* 8.6% had attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
* 3.7% were depressed
* 2.1% had conduct disorder
* 0.7% suffered from generalized anxiety disorder or panic disorder
* 0.1% were anorexic or bulimic
* 13% of kids surveyed had at least one of these disorders, and 1.8% had two or more.
Kids are very close to the our heart, so here at anxiety help blog we will have information on resources to help you and your kid battle all these mental health disorders… can you make a comment about this? what is your point of view? feelings? Leave a comment. thanks.

Learning How To Stop Anxiety is VERY Important For Your Health.
Here are 2 Very Important Questions To Ask YOURSELF When Trying To Learn How To Stop Anxiety Attacks
Who wants to put up with the constant symptoms and worries that come along with anxiety attacks? Anxiety attacks can have a devastating impact on your life. Start today and learn how to stop anxiety from becoming a routine in your life by asking these 2 very important yet simple questions:
1. Do you have too much going in your life right now?
Stress is one of the top factors for people experiencing severe anxiety attacks. Too much stress develops into acute anxiety. Adding too many daily responsibilities plus a huge workload can take a toll to your health, something that you really should be careful of. You want to live a long life, so, why not spread your “things or items to do” out and only take on what you are able to do in a given day. Leave the rest to another day or give the extra responsibilities to someone else.
2. Do you have an emotional support group?
How many times have we heard of the importance of having a medical and professional group of advisers… I say, too many. Yet, we really do not understand that we also need emotional support from family and friends. We are ALL going to have stress at any given point of our lives and may even have a break down here and there.
It is important you have someone or a group of people where we can “lean on” to talk to or to confide when we have anxiety and stress episode. It is definitely not good to keeping it all bottled up, all you are going to do is come apart. Having support is crucial in order for you to stop anxiety attacks.
Fear of Flying – Tips to Conquer Flying Phobia
Filed under: Anxiety Symptoms, Fear, Flight Anxiety, Self Help, Success
Every year, we find many, many people having a hard time conquering flying phobia. During a recent trip to Puerto Rico I experienced flying anxiety during the take off. I squeezed the seat, I held my wife’s hand very tight, and I closed my eyes plus I had hard time breathing. Actually, I thought I was having a heart attack. My problem is that after “911″ I have the fear of flying… period.
Since this episode, I have learned a bit about flight phobia… I also want to recommend a resource for you if you suffer from flying phobia (fear of flying) keep reading and see below.
The first thing to do if you suspect that you have developed this fear in flying is to educate yourself about the symptoms, conditions, treatments and steps to help overcome such fear.
Some of the common symptoms of flying phobia include acute anxiety or nervousness during, before any flight schedule. You might even experience nausea, dizziness, vomiting, muscular tensions, motion sickness, excessive sweating, heavy breathing, palpitations or increased heart rate and uncontrolled shaking or trembling of the person’s body.
I know that in my recent trip I mentioned above some of these symptoms appear as the plane was in lift off…. Now, you really do not want this to happen to you. It is best to find the best treatment for you to conquer your fear of flying.
First thing to do is to make sure you find professional help to secure a diagnosis of aviophobia before you go into any type of treatment. Your psychologist or medical professional should be able to find out the extent of the severity of the fear which may affecting your life.
The following are just tips that you can follow to eliminate flying phobia:
1. Be knowledgeable. This is the best thing that you can do!
2. Confront your fears before boarding a plane!
3. Stop Negative Thoughts.
And lastly for my own personal victory, here is a major tip… 911 is an event that happened 10 years ago… It was sad, terrible, but life continues.
Here’s that anxiety help resource that I mentioned above… I strongly urge to get this information in your hands as it will help you conquer your fear of flying. Click here or click the banner below.
Cymbalta Approved for Generalized Anxiety Disorder Treatment
Filed under: Anxiety Symptoms, Best Anxiety Medication, Depression
Big news today is that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Cymbalta® for the maintenance treatment of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in adults, Eli Lilly and Company announced today.
“With this additional approval, Cymbalta offers a new option for the maintenance treatment of this often-debilitating condition,” said said James M. Martinez, MD, U.S. Medical Director for Cymbalta.
ABOUT GENERALIZED ANXIETY DISORDER
Generalized anxiety disorder or GAD affects nearly 7 million Americans. Although the symptoms of Generalized Anxiety Disorder can be different and varied one can expect and experience the following: excessive worry or anxiety over a period of six months or longer, difficulties controlling worry, irritability, poor concentration, sleep disturbances, fatigue, restlessness and muscle tension.Obviously GAD will have a very negative impact on a person’s ability to function well in work, family and social situations.
People with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) go through the day filled with exaggerated worry and tension, even though there is little or nothing to provoke it. They anticipate disaster and are overly concerned about health issues, money, family problems, or difficulties at work. Sometimes just the thought of getting through the day produces anxiety. You can read more here: GAD.
ABOUT CYMBALTA
The press release reports that Cymbalta is a balanced and potent reuptake inhibitor of serotonin and norepinephrine that is believed to potentiate the activity of these chemicals in the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). While the mechanism of action of Cymbalta is not known, scientists believe its effects on depression and anxiety symptoms, as well as its effect on pain perception, may be due to increasing the activity of serotonin and norepinephrine in the central nervous system. You can read more about this press release at Cymbalta.
