Anxiety Help Secrets: Depression and Anxiety

Depression and Anxiety

At times, we battle with depression and anxiety. Well, I battle at times with major depression. Depression is a major factor for the high current suicide rates here in the US. Depression and anxiety attack disorders can be treated at the same time. Like anxiety disorders, depression can be treated with cognitive-behavioral therapy and antidepressants. Just make sure to consult soon with your doctor or psychiatrist.

Whatever you do the best treatment for anxiety or depression in my estimate is educating yourself.

I feel better understanding more and more about my diseases and disorders that is affecting my health, Well, I am a walking hospital. If we were to count all illnesses that I have that an take a little while but in all honesty I can say that what really makes me feel better is studying, researching and writing here in the blog about “how to stop anxiety” and helpul advice about related disorders.

That reminds me… If you have yet to get our free report, click here-anxiety help and get our report right now.. it is 100% free — no strings attached.

Here’s another post I wrote a few days ago about the battles Artie Lange has with depression.

Below, you will find short snippets of depression and anxiety attacks related resources which I think are invaluable,. You need to read them and go the websites for more information.

Get Well.

Here they are:

Depression is a condition in which a person feels discouraged, sad, hopeless, unmotivated, or disinterested in life in general. When these feelings last for a short period of time, it may be a case of “the blues. But when such feelings last for more than two weeks and when the feelings interfere with daily activities such as taking care of family, spending time with friends, or going to work or school, it’s likely a major depressive episode. Major depression is a treatable illness that affects the way a person thinks, feels, behaves, and functions. At any point in time, 3 to 5 percent of people suffer from major depression; the lifetime risk is about 17 percent. Three main types of depressive disorders-major depression, dysthymia, and bipolar disorder-can occur with any of the anxiety disorders.

http://mayoclinic.com/health/depression-and-exercise/MH00043
Depression is a healthy coping strategy. Trying to feel better by drinking alcohol, dwelling on how badly you feel, or hoping anxiety or depression will go away on their own can lead to worsening symptoms. The word “exercise” may make you think of running laps around the gym. But a wide range of activities that boost your activity level help you feel better. Certainly running, lifting weights, playing basketball and other fitness activities that get your heart pumping can help. But so can gardening, washing your car, or strolling around the block and other less intense activities. Anything that gets you off the couch and moving is exercise that can help improve your mood. You don’t have to do all your exercise at once, either. Broaden how you think of exercise and find ways to fit activity into your routine. Add small amounts of physical activity throughout your day. For example, take the stairs instead of the elevator. Park a little farther away at work to fit in a short walk.

http://www.helpguide.org/mental/medications_depression.htm
Depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain that medication can correct. According to the chemical imbalance theory, low levels of the brain chemical serotonin lead to depression and depression medication works by bringing serotonin levels back to normal. However, the truth is that researchers know very little about how antidepressants work. There is no test that can measure the amount of serotonin in the living brain – no way to even know what a low or normal level of serotonin is, let alone show that depression medication fixes these levels. While antidepressant drugs such as prozac increase serotonin levels in the brain, this doesn’t mean that depression is caused by a serotonin shortage. After all, aspirin may cure a headache, but it doesn’t mean that headaches are caused by an aspirin deficiency. Furthermore, many studies contradict the chemical imbalance theory of depression. Experiments have shown that lowering people’s serotonin levels doesn’t always lower mood, nor does it worsen symptoms in people who are already depressed. And while antidepressants raise serotonin levels within hours, it takes weeks before medication kicks in to relieve depression. If depression were due to low serotonin, there wouldn’t be an antidepressant medication lag. When it comes to depression, serotonin doesn’t tell the whole story. Experts agree that depression involves much more than just “bad” brain chemistry. Serotonin is just one of many factors that may play a role in the disorder.

In recent years, with burgeoning research progress, we are finding out that depression is much more common than many of us thought. At least 15% (and likely more) of women take an antidepressant during their lifetime. Depression is much more common in women than in men, but the reason for this female predominance is unclear. Depression and Anxiety battles as Artie Lange Attempts Suicide

On Jan 7, 2010, The New York Post reported that troubled comic Artie Lange,  Howard Stern’s sidekick, landed in the hospital after stabbing himself nine times in an apparent suicide attempt.

The newspaper continued by reporting that Lange sustained six “hesitation wounds” and three deep plunges.

You can Read more at: http://www.nypost.com/p/pagesix/stern_sidekick_in_suicide_try_5m9Hwhn1OvpONlzbsiW3oJ#ixzz0dGOdIMKv

Artie Lange has been compared and labeled as a self-destructive comedian equal to Chris Farley and John Belushi. Yet, this account of self inflicting wounds that the authorities are calling a suicide attempt boggles the mind and the soul. Manic Depression, anxiety attacks, and who knows what more, oh yes, drugs, are the demons of Artie Lange.

Too much drugs, too much depression, and extremely high levels of anxiety, leaves anyone with very little hope…

How far out can we go that gets us to a place where we do not want to live anymore?

Here’s a little table for us all that should put this suicide attempt into perspective:

from the CDC website: www.cdc.gov/nhcs/fastats/suicide.htm

Suicide and Self-Inflicted Injury

(Data are for the U.S.)

Health care use

* Number of emergency department visits for self-inflicted injury: 594,000

Source: National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey: 2006 Emergency Department Summary, table 13

Mortality
All suicides

* Number of deaths: 33,300
* Deaths per 100,000 population: 11.1
* Cause of death rank: 11

Firearm suicides

* Number of deaths: 16,883
* Deaths per 100,000 population: 5.6

Suffocation suicides

* Number of deaths: 7,491
* Deaths per 100,000 population: 2.5

Poisoning suicides

* Number of deaths: 6,109
* Deaths per 100,000 population: 2.0

{Editor’s Note: please focus on that this table is deaths per 100,000 population}

At the moment, it is also reported that Artie is out of the hospital and healing. Yet, it seems to me that this train is heading to a “head on collision” and the end of this story will not be pretty. I do hope not but this is how I am seeing it today.

I know that for those who read this blog this time of the year might not be the best… we just had the holidays here is the U.S. and that meant for many of us all the shopping, meeting and parties we really did not want to attend or do.

Yes, very high levels of anxiety and desperation.

Now, we are in the new year and that meant resolutions, goals, maybe a new job, career change and who know what else… but we also have to be in alert due to the economy, housing, then Haiti earthquake, and many more issues… just too much.

As you can maybe feel from the tone of this blog post I am feeling a bit tight and yes I can feel anxiety chest pains. But anyhow, we all know that there is a solution and that there is an opportunity for us all to learn how to stop anxiety.

I repeat myself--get anxiety help now. I am not sure if there is such a thing as a best anxiety medication. I go more for the natural remedies and here at the blog we have recommended Gabatrol.

--

Finally, my number 1 advice for 2010 is: to educate yourself… want to learn how to stop anxiety attacks.. then read, research, learn!

As for Artie Lange, I hope that he can find peace with himself and live a long life… yet the other days in my church a lady said this: “God is really close to us yet we are so far.”

Artie Lange if you read this blog --> God is really close to you, how about if you get closer to Him.

Peace.

The Time Is Now For You To Learn How To Reduce Anxiety

I am hoping that today’s post helps you learn how to reduce your anxiety.

I will be honest with you… checking out news of the Haiti earthquake and aftermath is giving me anxiety chest pain and I had to stop feeding my mind with all of the despair and negativity surrounding the news today.

There is way too much going on in the world today!

So, how is your anxiety?

If you are as same as me, then, with all that is happening in the world now… your anxiety must be at an all time high.

There are problems everywhere. Haiti, Iraq, War, H1N1, sickness, the declining stock market, etc. I know, I know… we all worry and at the same time our fears and phobias starts to creep in. This is a real bad time for all of us.

Anyhow, here are 5 tips you can use to reduce your anxiety! The five tips will help you handle your situation on your own without the help of medication… as we always prefer here in the blog… natural anxiety and panic remedies. So, check out the 5 tips on how to reduce anxiety:

1. Change your lifestyle
Many times panic attacks and anxiety attacks are do to a specific lifestyle or personality of yours. If you tend to surround yourself in a stressful environment such as a high-pressured job, you are bound to have built-up stress. If you tend to worry about a lot and have a great deal of pressure loaded on your shoulders, you may want to consider changing the life you are living. Even taking a few extra hours each week for some fun can have a tremendous effect.

2. It’s in your head
One of the last things people want to hear is that the attack is in their head. Unfortunately, this is something that many doctors do agree with. It can be directly related to a chemical imbalance or something similar, but keep in mind that a majority of the time anxiety attacks are mental. Therefore, the greatest anxiety attack self help tip is to learn to control your emotions and calm yourself from any worries you may have.

3. Research
The next self help tip is to take the time to learn what happens during an attack and how you can deal with it during the actual attack. Even if you are on medication to prevent attacks, you can still experience one from time to time. For this reason, you want to know what to do to get rid of it as quickly as possible.

4. Breathing exercises
As you have probably heard before, a great way to release stress is to practice some breathing exercises. Locking yourself in a calm room with little to no noise whatsoever will eliminate the constant stresses that surround you. It gives you time to clear your head and truly relax. Meditation is recommended with breathing exercises as well.

5. Exercise
The last anxiety attack self help tip is to get out and exercise. Sometimes anxiety can be caused by what you believe people think about you and your image. Exercising can help you create the image you desire. As with breathing exercises, this will also allow you to clear your head and feel good about yourself. By the time you are finished with your workout, you will feel relaxed and calm.

Do You Know What Causes Anxiety?

Today, I feel like I need to repeat the known facts of Anxiety for the newcomer to this blog. Some visitors here might not have the time to read each post. We are here to serve everyone so this post restates what we have reported or stated before.

For you that is looking to know how to stop anxiety

Anxiety is the fear of the unidentified.  When we think of fear, we often think of phobias.  Phobias are fears that are so severe that they actually make an impact on your life.  Anxiety, too, can make a huge impact on your life…if you let it get out of control.

There are several different categorization of anxiety disorders.  It is estimated that about 25 percent of the population suffers from one of these disorders.  Some may have less of the symptoms associated with this condition than others.  While some people who suffer from anxiety find it to be so repressing that they cannot go about their every day lives, others will be able to work through their lesser symptoms.

At the root of anxiety, like many other disorders, is control.  Or rather, lack of control.   Depression usually goes along with anxiety and many people who are diagnosed with anxiety are also found to be depressed.

The main anxiety disorders that will cause a panic attack or anxiety attack include General Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Post Traumatic Stress disorder.  While the symptoms for these disorders may vary, at the core of all of them is lack of control.

You might want to know how and why your anxiety is triggered.  For the most part, stress plays a huge factor in triggering an anxiety attack.  While the person who suffers from anxiety may react well in a stressful situation, after it is all over, they tend to have the anxiety or panic attacks.  Most people who have an anxiety attack for the first time have experienced a significant stressor in their daily life.   Thus, stress plays a major role in the cause of anxiety.

Now back to my point today about acupuncture and depression.

Acupuncture Helps Depression and Anxiety

Acupuncture Helps Depression and Anxiety

Acupuncture and Depression

One way in which many people have found relief for their depression and anxiety symptoms is through acupuncture treatments.

What is Depression?

The National Institute of Mental Health describes Depression as a serious medical illness; it’s not something that you have made up in your head. It’s more than just feeling “down in the dumps” or “blue” for a few days. It’s feeling “down” and “low” and “hopeless” for weeks at a time.

The National Institute of Mental Health also states that there is An estimated six million men in the United States have a depressive disorder-major depression, dysthymia (chronic, less severe depression), or bipolar disorder (manic-depressive illness) every year.

How can Acupuncture Treatment Help Depression and Anxiety

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese art. The insertion of very tiny, hair thin needles manipulates and balances the energy within our body. According to traditional Chinese medicine, all of us have an energy often referred to as Chi, and this energy causes all life to flow within us as individuals. A balance between the good and the bad energies in our body is necessary for us to maintain health. Acupuncture treatments realize and maintain this balance.

According to many naturalists, an imbalance in the body in some form or another causes depression. It often happens because of stress from lifestyle changes we experience, problems arising at work. or other situations in our lives. The depression we feel is quite real and can be life altering. Depression makes it difficult for us to lead a normal life. By bringing our body back into balance, however, we can overcome many health problems, including depression.

As it gained popularity in the United States in the past several decades, acupuncture treatments came under scrutiny by the medical community. However, rather than disproving the theory, the study results actually promoted the practice. Although it is difficult to create a control group in a clinical study of acupuncture treatment, some studies show an increase in blood flow and energy the targeted areas when manipulating acupuncture points.

If you are experiencing depression or having a difficult time in life, then acupuncture may help you. Over thousands of years, the practice helped an untold number of individuals cope with health problems and balance their life.

Can Acupuncture Positively Treat Depression and Anxiety?

A resounding “yes.” Acupuncture is indeed a powerful treatment for depression and anxiety. We have defined depression above, now, let’s define Anxiety. Anxiety is relatively permanent state of worry and nervousness. We have noted here today that Acupuncture seeks to address body, mind, emotions and spirit.

How does then acupuncture help depression and anxiety?

It will help by creating harmony within ourselves and between ourselves and the world. A body in harmony then will have no anxiety symptoms.

Finally, I recommend that you read this great article and keep studying about this great topic, so go ahead by clicking the title: Can acupuncture treat depression and anxiety?

Depending at what time you are reading this and personally knowing this is a time when we all experience anxiety, panic and depression. I want to wish YOU well into the future–have a GREAT 2010! Let us make it the year we get healthier.

Blood Pressure and My Anxiety

Another health issue that I have is High Blood Pressure.

I am also over-weight.

At times, and depending on the level stress compounded with my anxiety disorder, my blood pressure rises through the roof. I am taking lisinopril for this but that does not stop it from being high at times.

Am I worried… a bit. My mother died from a heart attack that resulted from the high blood pressure problem she had. I need to be careful and take care of myself.

So, here is a bit of information in regards to high blood pressure which I am hoping that it helps you.

The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute define High blood pressure (HBP) as a serious condition that can lead to coronary heart disease, heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, and other health problems.

“Blood pressure” is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps out blood. If this pressure rises and stays high over time, it can damage the body in many ways.

If you have high blood pressure, you are going to be more at danger for many diverse types’ health problems. Your body is not going to be healing well after an injury and it will not repair itself after being sick.

You can read more at The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute.

Now that we know that high blood pressure is something that can lead to a many difficulties during your lifetime. Here are some “easy” tasks that you should think about doing.

First, See a Doctor. You are too valuable to take this lightly.

Second, you should get plenty of exercise. Try getting your heart rate pumping for a period of time several times a week. Basically, go to the gym or create a gym in a section of your house. This is a good way to keep your heart in shape. Also, make sure that you do whatever is necessary to reduce your high blood pressure numbers.

Third, You will need to eat a good diet and stay away from high fat and cholesterol and that you should be doing whatever is healthier for your body when it comes to the food.

Finally, If you Doctor prescribed high blood medication then take it religiously. Do not skip, forget, or not give it importance. At the end, my mother died by not giving that much importance to the Doctor’s orders and the HBP medication. Any kind of medication will have a huge impact on your blood pressure.

There is a lot of different talk about how thing that we do in life will affect our body. You have to figure out that your blood pressure is something that can be dangerously damages your health. It is going to be very important that you know what to do in order to keep your body healthy.

Have a great 2010.

Christmas, Snow, I need Chamomile Tea for Anxiety Help

Here we go,

I live in NJ. South NJ to be exact and we had 22″ inches of snow in my neck of the woods.

It was good and bad.

Good because had a chance to spend time with the kids, wife and some friends.

Bad, because Christmas is in three days. What? Yes, I have anxiety and stress.

At this time of the year, My anxieties come from:

  • Snow
  • Christmas
  • Christmas brings friends and family where I find myself with social anxiety… Even thinking of all that I have to do is giving me so much fear and stress plus a bit of depression
  • Christmas parties… ouch.
  • Buying gifts and not buying gifts, etc.

Well, if you are like me, then, you understand my emotions for this time of year. So, the other days, deep in snow and feeling anxious, I asked myself what do I have here in the house that can relief my stress, and control my emotions and feelings… I definitely did not want to go to the Doctor.

I needed to know how to stop my anxiety fast… or at least give me a smooth easy feeling. I decided to search my pantry and all the way in the back I found this box of Chamomile Tea that was given to me awhile ago.

Chamomile Tea

Right after the first sip, I knew that the hot Chamomile Tea was just the right thing for me because it has this soothing effect… just wonderful. Chamomile Tea acts as a mild relaxant so it is useful in treating stress, anxiety, depression, and insomnia.  And it’s also useful in the treatment of skin irritations and allergies.

Anyhow, It is so fragrant, with a light herbal taste. I just love it. Chamomile tea is becoming one of my favorite herbal products.

  • As always, we want to add the disclaimer that is in the box of tea I have here, the disclaimer is that Chamomile Tea may interfere with some anxiety and depression drugs, so really read the labels of any products before you use them.

I am much better today. This morning I had my morning herbal tea.

But, I will keep you posted on how I do with all the shopping, gifting, family reunion and parties.

God Bless, Happy Christmas and GREAT New Year 2010!

Learn About The Most Common Anxiety Attack Symptoms

Once again, today, we focus on making sure that you are aware of the physical symptoms of anxiety. From time to time, we remind everyone of the symptoms, medications and best remedies to cure anxiety.

Prepare yourself to know the symptoms when having an anxiety attack. Throughout the Anxiety Help blog we have given various symptoms that come along with anxiety and panic attacks. Needless is to say that we all face a number of physical and emotional symptoms that triggers these symptoms. Let me list just a few as a reminder of what happens when having an attack and for you to become savvy in dealing with the disorder.

More importantly, the Christmas season will be here soon and we have seen the comments and questions increase during the holidays… take all measures to make sure that you can deal with fear, depression and any other mental disorder you might have.

First, lets start with the emotional symptoms you may experience when becoming anxious..

1) Irrational and excessive fear and worry

The most common symptom as people end up worrying about being around others, what has happened in the past or what will happen in the future. You end up watching for signs of danger and will typically anticipate the worst to happen.

2) Feeling irritable, restless, tense, and have trouble concentrating.

Ultimately, it is going to make it difficult to get through your every day life.

Then, how about the physical symptoms…

Have you experienced or have these:

1) Twitches
2) Fatigue
3) Upset stomach
4) Frequent urination

And how about,

5) Anxiety Chest Pain
6) Muscle tension
7) Insomnia

It is easy to confuse these symptoms, but all you have to do is to make sure that you see a doctor as soon as possible. Having professionals at your side helping you get the best care is important for your health and quality of life.
